If you have DNSResponder virus on your Mac

You have found the mDNSResponder.exe process in your task manager, and you want to know what it is. First of all, it is not a virus, it was developed by Apple. Let’s take a closer look at why this process is, what functions it performs, and how it can be removed.

What is mDNSResponder.exe?

The process mDNSResponder.exe belongs to the Windows Bonjour service. This is a file that is installed on your Mac along with other installed programs, usually it is installed automatically with iTunes.

It also comes in a number of other programs, such as Pidgin, Skype, Safari, and is used to connect clients to the local network.

It is implemented as a Windows service, which you can see if you go to “Control Panel” -> “Services”. You can stop it here at any time.

The whole problem is that during installation it does not appear at all in the “Add or Remove Programs”, so you cannot get rid of it using the usual method. But if you really want to, you can delete mDNSResponder.exe, this will simply limit some functions in applications that use this process.

Note: Do not get rid of Bonjour service if it is used by iTunes to share libraries or any other application that uses it.

How to remove mDNSResponder.exe from your Mac?

Firstly, it should be noted that you can disable mDNSResponder without removing it, just go to the “Control Panel” of “Services”, double-click on the Bonjour service, and change the startup type to “Disabled”.

This will be the best solution, if you really do not want to break something, if there are any problems, you can always turn it on again.

How to completely remove it?

If you are absolutely sure that you want to completely remove it from Mac, it is really very simple. Open the command line in administrator mode (right-click and select Run as administrator), and then go to the directory where it is installed, usually this:

\ Program Files \ Bonjour

If you are using Vista, or Windows 7 x64 Edition, you need to go to the Program Files (x86) folder. Now that you are there, enter the following command to see the options: mDNSResponder.exe /?

To remove it just type in the following command:

mDNSResponder.exe – remove

You will receive a message that the service has been deleted.

Another way to deal with that is to get rid of cache using Clario antivirus. It will help to cope with some server connection issues.
